One of the most common mistakes that is made when replacing existing or installing new balustrades is meeting the OH&S requirements. Any floor level above 1.8m off the ground requires an approved temporary safety rail during construction. Many builders make the mistake of saying just use a harness which in OH&S terms is deemed as the last resort option. Unfortunately if used correctly a harness only becomes viable if more than 4.0m above the ground where the shock absorber will extend prior to landing on the ground.
All this means the only current “legal” option is to erect expensive scaffolding around the deck PRIOR to removing any existing balustrade or railing.
That’s why we created Alumi-Safe!
Temporary Handrails provides complete safety for both the tradesman and the public. This allows balustrade installers to erect an approved temporary rail from the safety of an existing deck before removing any of the existing structure. They will then complete the installation of the new balustrade or railing and then remove Temporary Handrail prior to leaving. This eliminates the need to get scaffolders in before and after, speeding up the process, minimising interruption and reducing costs.
